Checking out the Show of Shows

February 25, 2016

Last week Checkpoint Militaria embarked on a trip to the USA to visit the OVMS ‘Show of Shows’ in Louisville, Kentucky. The grand event held at the Kentucky Exposition Center located near the airport in Louisville was the home to over 2000 tables of Militaria! The Militaria on display from various dealers and independents was vast and covered all periods of history, truly a site to be marvelled at.

Checkpoint embarked the adventure as guests this year and we were fortunate to meet up with other passionate collectors at the Meet and Greet held at the Cardinal organised by Fred Green, mastermind collector of insignia. The Meet and Greet was a fantastic start to the weeks activities. Here we are at the Cardinal Hall of Fame with Brian holding a Heer and SS Visor Caps and Uniforms whos author was also in attendance.

Meet and Greet

It was a great evening and a pleasure to meet international collectors from the US, France and Norway!

Thanks to Fred for the pictures!

At the Show of Shows we met a number of British dealers in amongst the 2000 tables. We also bumped into Craig Gottlieb who you may recognise from the History Channel and Pawn Stars.

With so much Militaria on display the show is spread over two days and we certainly think its worth the trip. Louisville also boasts other interesting attractions including the Frazier History Museum and the Muhammad Ali Center. There is also the Mega Cavern, an underground cavern which is also a good history attraction with the Mega Tram. Here are some pictures of our travels.

Back in the UK, stay tuned for some new dates for fairs we will be attending this year soon!
